The collection of sheet music is the assemblage of digitised musical oeuvres of a particular historical, cultural or research value stored at the Russian State Library.

Its core is a selection of music publications of mid 18 —19th centuries. Among those pieces there should be distinguished the following ones:

  • first editions of I.S. Bach, G.F. Handel, A. Vivaldi, V.A. Mozart, L. van Beethoven, L. Cherubini and  J. Rossini issued in typographs of Germany, France and Italy;
  • life editions of works by D.S. Bortnyansky, M.I. Glinka, A.E. Varlamov, A.F. Lvov, A.A. Alyabyev, P.I. Turchaninov, M.P. Mussorgsky, P.I. Tchaikovsky printed by the well-known publishers from Moscow and St. Petersburg, such as I. Beggrov, M. Bernard, V. Bessel, A. Gutheil, F. Stellovsky and P. Jürgenson;
  • a range of issues published in typographs of Holy Synod and the Court Singing Chapel.

Apart from that, the collection can boast of works by the contemporary authors who had entered licence agreements. Still, the access to such licensed pieces is restricted and can be realized exclusively from the reading rooms of the Russian State Library.
