Books of Early Print is a collection of old-printed books published before the year of 1831 and stored at the Russian State Library.

At the moment, here are represented early printed books issued at first Slavonic printing houses of Poland, Montenegro, Walachia, Venice and Prague, beginning with the “Octoechos” dated by the year of 1491 edited by  Schweipolt Fiol in Kraków. Among its other crown jewels there can be named books published in the 17th century by Moscow Print Yard.

One can also feast his eyes on the first editions of most significant legislative acts and legal documents of the 18th century, such as manifests and regulations, decrees and tariff laws, articles and instructions issued during the reign of Peter the Great, Empresses Anna Ioannovna, Elizabeth Petrovna and Catherine the Great. Then, there are exhibited statistics, geographical and topographical descriptions of regions, provinces, cities and places by I.I. Lepekhin, P.S. Pallas and P.I. Rychkov. Connoisseurs and all those who are interested in the history of the nation are sure to make use of the first editions of chronicles, armorials and international agreements, no less interesting will they find the “Ancient Russian History” by M.V. Lomonosov, or “Russian history from the very ancient times” by V.N. Tatishchev, “Russian history from the ancient times” by M.M. Shcherbatov, dictionary of writers by N.I. Novikov and other rare documents represented on the catalogue.
